A wonderful gentleman from a time gone by.
We first met after I fell for Dorian (his son) on a caravan holiday in Herefordshire as our first ‘love’. He allowed this strange girl from London to visit and stay many times for 5 years in his home and always welcome me.
The house was a beautiful time warp (oh the retro was beautiful looking back!), meticulously clean and he took real pride in it. The photography all happened in the garage which was strictly out of bounds. He took beautiful photos which he and Mrs Hindmarsh would send as Christmas cards to my parents.
I loved my trips there, the railways (inside and out). Paul passed on a love for ‘tinkering’ to Dorian who also changed a mini engine with my dad I recall!
Thank you to Paul of fuelling my love of the north east, post-Thatcher politics. You leave behind a wonderful son, his wife and children. May the legacy of ‘tinkering’ live on. H
